Rescue Robot League

Arenas

The arena that will host the competition is based upon the orange arena of NIST's Reference Test Arenas for Autonomous Mobile Robots. The NIST arenas have collectively hosted the past three AAAI/IJCAI Mobile Robot Competitions. They have also served as the inspiration for the Japanese arenas that hosted the RoboCupRescue - Robot League 2002 competition this past summer in Japan.

Orange Arena Layout

Above is a sample layout of the orange arena.  This environment is representative of the realistic challenges found in an urban search and rescue setting.  Some of the obstacles present include variable floorings and a three-dimensional maze with stairs, a ramp and holes. This arena is reconfigurable in real-time.

Below are pictures of the Japanese orange arena from RoboCup2002.

Simulated Victims

Simulated victims with various signs of life can be found throughout the arena. Human form, motion, audio, thermal, and chemical (CO2 emission) signatures represent victims of various states. Some of the simulated victims that have been fabricated are shown below.
