Meeting Minutes Wednesday 21 June 2006 Telecon In attendance: Fred Proctor, NIST Alan Crawford, LSC Alain Brail, Airbus Martin Hardwick, STEP Tools Inc. David Odendahl, Boeing Prior to this telecon, Sid Venkatesh of Boeing called Fred and said that representatives from Wipro would be attending the Toulouse demo. Wipro did the Catia AP-238 export using STEP Tools' DLL for Boeing. They will demonstrate this using David's laptop and Catia V5 R16 during the Wednesday demo, taking part of Boeing's slot. Alain said that the roughing demonstration will be short, about 10 to 15 minutes. Alan expressed surprise that it was this short, but that leaves us some more time. Given the full schedule that is a good thing. 70 people will be attending the demonstration. About 120 will be participating in the SC4 meeting. Airbus will broadcast live camera feeds of the demonstrations to the Internet, and archive selected interesting parts to CD. The live broadcasts will occur too early for normal U.S. viewers, so the CD will be nice to have. The last files that Alain sent to David are fine, and David reports that he has everything he needs. David did voice concern over the apparent lack of stock near the "mouth" of the fish head part after roughing. This could cause problems if the roughed part is removed and refixtured, as Alain has noted in the demo writeup. Alain asserts that there is 7 mm around the whole part, including the mouth; David said that he didn't see this. Alain will double-check tomorrow. Alan suggested that at this late stage, we either use a smaller tool or offset the part a bit. Tomorrow, Alain will go to the U of Toulouse to do roughing cuts and maybe finishing cuts. This was to have taken place last Friday, but Alain is awaiting tools. Hopefully all will go OK. If not, Martin said it will take around 10 minutes to prepare new data if Alain changes the Catia part and process files. This is only if Martin has access to the Internet. If such an emergency occurs, Alain is to prepare new data and call Martin on his cell phone immediately. If Martin is not available, Alain is to call David on his cell phone immediately. We are no longer planning on cutting and showing a series of parts that indicate the progress of the fish head from stock to finished part. There is not enough time for this. David will bring a circle- diamond- square part and a 5-axis rib part to show. David will send Alan a list of the English tooling required to cut the Boeing rib part. Alan will ask Jonas Nordstrom of Sandvik to have these tools on hand. This will allow us to cut the Boeing part on the University's DMU e50 machine, if time permits and we are lucky enough to pull it off. This was the last telecon before Toulouse. Action Items ------------ * Alain will go to the University and prove out the cutting tests. * Fred will cut the Boeing part at NIST, and bring the part and video to Toulouse. * Martin and David will email their cell phone numbers to Alain, in case Alain needs to prepare new data at the last minute. Alain is to call Martin first, then David, if an emergency arises. * David will bring the circle- diamond- square part and the rib part to Toulouse, for show- and- tell. * David will send a list of English tooling required to cut the Boeing rib part to Alan, who will try to obtain this through Jonas Nordstrom. As recorded by Fred Proctor on 21 June 2006.
