Meeting Minutes Wednesday 31 May 2006 Telecon In attendance: Fred Proctor, NIST Sid Venkatesh, Boeing Alan Crawford, LSC Alain Brail, Airbus Martin Hardwick, STEP Tools Inc. Alain noted problems with the Siemens NC code they tried to run. There are numerous subroutine calls, like WSTOOL and WSSPINDLE, that are not available on their controller. There is a B3 1, 0 and -1 command that also causes problems. The G2 and G3 commands have 4 decimal places and don't work. Alain will send the NC file out so that we can have a look. The subroutines are Boeing's and simply sending them to Alain may fix this. Sid will run the NC code through his Sinutrain simulator and see what he sees. The cutting tool length was increased to 150 mm overall so that it wouldn't interfere with stock and fixturing. Now the tool is 50 mm cutting length, 150 mm overall. Airbus will change the Catia process file accordingly. The cutting tests at the university are waiting for new Catia process files and resolution of the NC issues. Hopefully they will happen soon, but Alain had no schedule yet. Regarding the roughing data, Alan Crawford is working on a new roughing plan, with no tail, some features David Odendahl wanted, and extra material left on per the last telecon. Alan described the QASOR quality files that enable automated quality checking from STEP data. This is something we could discuss at the meeting as an example of the benefits of STEP in, STEP out, STEP throughout. Sid reported that Gernot Rossi of Siemens will be attending the meeting. Someone from the DURR company will also attend; we don't know much about this person or the company. Fanuc has not given a commitment. Okuma has said no. Alain had heard from Dr. Sakamoto that he will participate. Steven Newman from the University of Bath will attend Wednesday afternoon. Martin described the role of Mastercam in the demonstration. Mastercam will read in AP 224 that LSC has generated, and the operator will pick a tool and guide the generation of AP 238. This data will go into the 840D controller equipped with the converter, which will generate the NC code that Alain dicsussed earlier. Alain has loaded this STEP-NC converter on the 840D already. Action Items ------------ * Alain will email the Siemens NC code and related files so that we can see what the problems are. * Fred will email David Odendahl regarding the data for the cutting to occur at NIST. * Alain will continue to prepare for cutting tests at the university, preparing new Catia process files along the way. * Alan will work on the new roughing plan. As recorded by Fred Proctor on 31 May 2006.
