Travel
Travel to the Washington, D.C. area is relatively easy from almost anywhere in the world. Three international airports serve the area: Reagan National Airport (DCA) which is 30 minutes by car with access to the Metro rail system, Dulles International Airport (IAD) which is 40 minutes away by car, and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) which is 50 minutes away by car. There are numerous hotels in and around Washington that support a vibrant tourist trade, along with ample venues for dining and entertainment. As the Nation's Capital, Washington is also home to many important historical sites and amazing museums with a Metro subway system that provides easy access to many of the most popular destinations in and around the city.

Accommodations
A block of rooms have been reserved at the Hilton Hotel at 620 Perry Parkway, Gaithersburg, Maryland. The special rate is $139.00 per night plus 12% tax. Please contact the hotel directly at 301/977-8900. To make your reservation, mention that you are attending the "NIST/ PerMIS Workshop".

NIST Visitor Information

How to get to the NIST facilities in Gaithersburg, Maryland
The headquarters site of the National Institute of Standards & Technology is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, just off Interstate Route 270, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the center of Washington, D.C. NIST provides shuttle service from the Shady Grove Metro (subway) station. For further information on transportation, food/dining, hotels/motels and more see the Visitor Information page.

Directions to Main Campus
From northbound I-270 take Exit 10, Route 117 West, Clopper Road. Bear right at the first light onto Clopper Road/West Diamond Avenue. At the next light, turn left onto the NIST grounds.

From southbound I-270 take Exit 11, Route 124, Montgomery Village Avenue/Quince Orchard Road. Bear right at the first light onto Route 124 West, Quince Orchard Road. After you merge onto Rt. 124, Quince Orchard Road, turn left at the second light onto Route 117, West Diamond Avenue. Turn right at the first light onto NIST grounds.

NIST's Metro Shuttle Information
NIST provides a Metro Shuttle that runs every half-hour (on the hour and half-hour) between NIST and the Shady Grove metro stop. The first shuttle leaves NIST at 8 a.m. and the final trip is at 5:30 p.m. Visitors using the shuttle should wait at the front entrance to Building 101. No reservations are necessary.

The Washington Metro has subway service to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The Metro System can be boarded at Shady Grove Metro Stop. Take a red line train to Gallery Place, transfer to a yellow line train to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Service is every 6 to 15 minutes, depending on the time of day. The time from Shady Grove to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is about 50 minutes. The Shady Grove Station is approximately four miles from the hotel and NIST.

Transportation
A NIST bus will provide service between the Gaithersburg Hilton Hotel, Courtyard Marriott Washingtonian Center and NIST each day.

Due to heightened security, airport shuttles, and taxis are prohibited from entering the NIST grounds. All shuttles and taxis must be met at the main gate.
